How to Pack a Suitcase or Trolley Case

Step OneThe following guide shows how to pack with minimum creasing.
Step TwoPlace trousers or skirts with the waist against the side, with the rest of the item hanging over the edge (this being folded later to avoid sharp creasing).
Step ThreeJackets, coats or dresses are placed on top - in the opposite direction - again hanging over the edge.
Step FourAdd pullovers, shirts and lingerie obtaining a level surface and then fold back the jackets one by one.
Step Five...followed by the trousers or skirts.
Step SixFinally, attach the packing straps. Ties and belts go around the edges; place socks in shoes or in shirt collars to keep them in shape. Fill gaps with small items.
  • make a list then reduce it!
  • don't check in anything valuable, fragile or necessary on the journey, carry it with you.
  • all electrical goods, including P.C's go in hand luggage. (Airline rules)
  • pack shoes/heavy items in the base, as near the wheels as possible; pots and tubes go in plastic bags; protect fragile items.
  • roll up casual clothes - they will crease less; stuff shoes with socks; roll ties.
  • just in case, pack basic toiletries in hand luggage for an overnight stay.
  • travel-size washing powders are useful.
  • don't forget childrens books and favourite toys!
  • avoid your home address being easily visible on your luggage as it advertises your absence; put your name/address inside your case too.
  • choose easy care fabrics; place tissue paper between each layer of special clothing.
  • on arrival, hang creased clothing in a steamy bathroom with the lights off (most hotel extractors are connected to the light); steam will take the creases out.
  • minor creases should be sprayed with an atomiser; as garmet dries the creases will fall out.
